Vacation Rental Description

Bob and Sammye Lamb will meet you at the Hale Keiki Hipa. We can  
also arrange personalized tours, if you so desire.  We have been  
tour guides since the 70’s.  We have toured Africa, Europe,Asia,  
South America and North America, as well as, the islands of the  
Caribbean.  
 
Our brand new vacation rental includes a studio apartment with:  
private bath, private lanai, private entrance, small refrigerator,  
microwave, flatware, dishes, stereo, cable TV, coffee maker,  
toaster, toaster oven, limited use of washer / dryer, car port,  
etc.  Our  
studio is great for two, but it can accomadate more if you don't  
mind being crowded. 
 
 We are located in Hawaiian Paradise Park, a short drive from the  
ocean.  We are close to many of the tourist attractions; such as  
Volcano National Park, Akatsuka Orchid Gardens, naturally heated hot  
pond, steam vents, Lava Tree State Park, reef pools (where you can  
snorkel with beautiful tropical fish).  Isaac Hale State Park (A  
popular place for surfers), Breathtaking Akaka Falls, Umauma Falls,  
Nani Mau Botanical Gardens, Mauna Loa Macadamia Farms, and much much  
more! 
 
Rental cars in Hawaii are some of the least expensive in the  
nation. However, if you choose our personalized tours, we can drive  
you around in our comfortable SUV and you just sit back and relax.  
Please remember to reserve your rent car and room as soon as  
possible.  Ocasionally rent cars are all rented due to some  
international event.  BOOK EARLY!!

Vacation Rental Amenities

full size bed (can be used as a futon couch), extra air mattress and  
two small futons (these can be used to sleep more people if you  
don't mind being crowded), large studio room, private lanai, private  
full bath, closet, kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator,  
toaster oven, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, flatware.  We also have  
cable TV, Stereo radio, tape player and record  
player.  Studio also has a desk,and fans. Wireless DSL is also  
available if you bring your laptop with the right card. 
    
The private lanai has a small table and chairs for dining on lanai,  
or you can move it indoors.  Sliding glass door on lanai lets in the  
tradewinds and two large windows (one 8' and one 6') let the cool  
breezes in all the time. They can also be closed if that's too much  
breeze. The bathroom has towels and wash cloths.   The carport has  
our washer and dryer which you can use on a limited basis ( once a  
week), and we are just on the other side of the carport if you need  
us.  We have no kids at home and we don't like noise, so it is  
usually quiet except for the birds, geckos, frogs,and crickets.

Activities and Attractions

We are located near tide pools, volcanos, mountains, and too many  
things to mention in a short space. Below is more information from

 Nani Mau Gardens is Located 3 miles south of the Hilo Airport on  
Highway 11; the "Aloha" landscaped logo marks the turnoff onto  
Makalika Street  
 
This 20-acre garden features anthuriums, orchids, native Hawaiian  
plants, manicured floral gardens, and a water garden. There is also  
a botanical museum on the grounds. The garden is open daily from  
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30  
p.m. The admission fee is $10; no admission charge for children  
under 6 years old. Discounts are available for seniors, children and  
Big Island residents. Tram rides, which include a narrated tour of  
the garden, are available for an additional $5.00 fee; a minimum of  
5 passengers is required.  
 
Another garden is Located a mile from Hilo Harbor on the way to  
King's Landing; 1/4 mile from Onekahakaha Beach Park  
 
Hilo Tropical Gardens was established in 1948 by En Loy Kong. The  
plantings in this 2-acre garden feature orchids, anthuriums, and  
other tropical ornamental plants. The garden is open on Monday,  
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday (closed Thursday and  
Sunday) from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tours are self-guided; all  
pathways are paved and are wheelchair accessible. Entrance fee of  
$2.00 per person; there is no charge for children under 12 years  
old.  
 
Pua Mau Place Arboretum and Botanical Garden opened in October 2000.  
It is a 45-acre desert garden and a major focus of the garden is the  
use of ever-blooming woody plants in an arid Hawaiian environment.  
The garden features a "hibiscus maze" with over 200 different  
varieties of hibiscus as well as spectacular views. The plants are  
marked and an information booklet with plant names and descriptions  
is available. Garden hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday  
through Sunday, except holidays. Self-guided tours are available.  
Recommended donations are $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for children and  
$7.00 for seniors. 
 
Umauma Falls World Botanical Gardens has been open since July 1995  
and contains more than 5,000 plant species. Major features include a  
rainforest walk and Umauma Falls, a 3-tiered 300-foot waterfall. The  
visitor center is currently under construction. The gardens are open  
Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; closed on  
Sundays. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for teens. There is  
no admission charge for children 12 and under.
